Meeting of the Minister of Defence and Newly Appointed Ambassador of Tunisia




Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vulin met today the newly appointed Ambassador of Tunisia in the Republic of Serbia, His Excellency Seyf-Allah Rejeb.
 
Topics of the meeting were the issues of bilateral relations and opportunities for the enhancement of the level of the existing cooperation in the fields of common interest.
 
At the beginning of the meeting, Minister Vulin expressed gratitude to the Tunisian side for the principled support in relation to the unilaterally proclaimed independence of the so called “Kosovo”.
 
- We highly appreciate the principled policy of Tunisia and the support to our efforts to preserve sovereignty and territorial integrity in Kosovo and Metohija. The friendly country – Tunisia protects the interests of Serbia in the framework of the Arabian League and the Organisation of Islamic Conference – Minister Vulin stressed.
 
In a cordial and friendly discussion, the minister of defence reminded of the role that Tunisia had played in relation to the Serbian Army in the First World War after the Albanian Golgotha and during the fighting in Thessaloniki front and expressed gratitude for the preservation of soldiers’ cemeteries in Tunisia where around 2,700 Serbian soldiers rest.
 
The Ambassador highlighted that Tunisia highly appreciated the role of Serbia in the First World War and he expressed desire for Serbia and Tunisia to mark together the 100th anniversary of friendship during the year.
 
The interlocutors established that good political relations between Serbia and Tunisia represented an excellent foundation for development and enhancement of cooperation and agreed that the military economy, military educational, military medical, military to military and cooperation between security-intelligence services represented areas in which it was possible to establish and develop bilateral military cooperation.
