Medical demonstration exercise “Spring 2017”
In the area of “Banjica” barracks and the hall of the Scientific Teaching Council of the Military Medical Academy, the final medical demonstration exercise "Spring 2017" was held, which started on the 12th May. The senior officers of the Military Medical Training Centre, attendees of the 11th class for reserve officers of medical service, as well as teachers of the MMA organizational units participated in the exercise. In addition, the exercise was attended by cadets of the 3rd and 4th class of the MMA Medical Faculty of the University of Defence as of the 16th May. The activities today were attended by the MMA Deputy Head Col. Prof. Dr. Dragan Dincic, officers of the MMA management and heads of organizational units.
The topic of the exercise “Spring 2017” was management of the injured and perished in conditions of emergency situations – an earthquake. The Director of the exercise Lieutenant Colonel Zeljko Jadranin, PhD, briefed participants and observers on the objectives of the exercise. The cadet Esmer Fejzic in the role of Chief of Staff and the attendee Lance Corporal Jelena Nisevic in the role of the Surgeon General spoke about the situation on the ground.
Then, the exercise was held at exercise points, and the cadet Staff Sergeant First Class Stefan Vidakovic, who was in the role of commander of a medical company, showed participants the exercise points - the units of the light field hospital. Participants were acquainted with the work of mixed preventive medical teams in the area affected by the earthquake and mixed psychological-psychiatric medical team. Then, activities at the reception-triage ward, surgical activities of mobile teams and management of patients in the light field hospital were presented. The last exercise points were the evacuation unit and admitting unit at the MMA heliport, where the injured were evacuated by air.Helicopter transport was performed by members of the 204th Air Force Brigade using the new helicopter Mi-17. This part of the exercise was attended by the Director of the Civil Aviation Directorate Mirjana Cizmarov with associates.
In parallel with the demonstration exercise “Spring 2017”, the evaluation of the Balkan Medical Task Forces light field hospital took place in “Banjica” barracks. For this purpose, the light field hospital was deployed, obtained as the donation from the Kingdom of Norway. In its work, around sixty members of medical personnel from Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Montenegro and Serbia participated.Summing up the impressions of the exercise today, its Director Lieutenant Colonel Zeljko Jadranin, PhD, said that attendees and cadets acquired concrete practical knowledge on patients’ triage in the field, the primary management and evacuation to higher level medical centers for final management, and that the exercise met all set objectives.
