Defence Minister on the border with the Republic of Macedonia



The Defence Minister Zoran Djordjevic accompanied by the Deputy Commander of General Staff Joint Operations Command Major General Slavoljub Janicijevic paid a visit today to the Joint Military and Police Force engaged in protection of the state border with the Republic of Macedonia.
 
During the visit to the possessed post “Cakanovac”, the Commander of the Joint Military and Police Force Brigadier General Dejan Jankovic informed the Defence Minister that the situation in all sectors in the area of responsibility of the Joint Force was regular and that all planned tasks were successfully performed.
 
Furthermore, General Jankovic stressed that the protection of the state border was executed by the combination of line and deep security. According to him, since the beginning of their engagement the Joint Force have successfully prevented more than 21.000 migrants from illegal crossing of the state border of our country, and 140 smugglers have been arrested.
 
After touring the post, Minister Djordjevic emphasized that the Joint Military and Police Force on a daily basis including the 1st May holidays were on their duties of securing the border and preventing illegal crossings, human trafficking and protecting security of our citizens and their property.
 
“The security situation is stable and at the moment we have no indication that security and property of our citizens are endangered, which does not mean that the military, policy and other security services do not control the situation. We continuously monitor the situation and in accordance with it, we adjust the engagement of our force”, Minister Djordjevic assessed.  
 
Talking about the meeting today with members of the Joint Force, the Defence Minister emphasized that they had talked about the current activities, as well as the enhancement of the material status of our military and police force, and the conclusion is that the Serbian Government is doing its best to improve the material status of the armed and police force from day to day.
 
Within performing everyday tasks, members of the Joint Force use the most modern equipment and technical devices, and at one of the posts Minister Djordjevic with his associates had the chance to make sure of the significance of termovision equipment in the activities of preventing illegal crossings of the state border and human trafficking.
 
After the visit to the state border with the Republic of Macedonia, Minister Djordjevic with his associates paid an unannounced visit to members of the Serbian Armed Forces in the South Base.
