Exhibition “Serb Woman - Heroine in the Great War”

The exhibition “Serb Woman – Heroine in the Great War” by Dimitrije Vujadinovic has been opened in the Central Military Club of the Serbian Armed Forces. The exhibition, which highlights the heroic role of the Serb woman, who, after the occupation and retreat of the army and people through Albania, burdened herself with the family, the house and property, the burned and looted hearth and care for the loved ones who were at the front, has been opened by Nena Kunijevic, an art historian, director, music editor and scriptwriter of the Radio Television of Serbia.

“There have been a lot of events marking World War I last three years. However, we can say that the role of a woman has been somehow neglected in all of them. All military triumphs would be futile if it were not for the bravery in character and genetic code of those women, their wisdom and skill to survive in the impossible war conditions and sufferings. For the first time at the global stage of the mankind – political, economic and family one, the Great War strongly affirmed and proved the values of women, mothers, who educated their children in a heroic way to be fearless defenders of the homeland and freedom of their nation. When those heroes went into the war, when they achieved astonishing feats, when they sacrificed themselves for the country, we followed their lives and feats not remembering who educated them, who made them heroes. We have neglected the role of a mother and woman in the creation of the Serbian national being. This exhibition is correcting injustice in its way”, Nena Kunijevic said opening the exhibition.

The exhibition “Serb Woman – Heroine in the Great War” will be open by 6th May 2017 in the Small Gallery of the Central Military Club of the Serbian Armed Forces.
