Fire Salute on Kalemegdan on the occasion of the Statehood Day
On the occasion of celebrating the Statehood Day of Serbia, the Serbian Armed Forces Guard executed today a fire salute with 10 volleys fired from six artillery weapons. The volleys were fired from Sava Terrace on Kalemegdan at 16.00 hours.
The fire salute was attended by the Minister of Defence, Mr Zoran Đorđević, Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, General Ljubiša Diković, Commander of the Guard, Major General Milomir Todorović and the gathered citizens.
In Serbia, 15th February is marked as the Statehood Day in memory of the anniversary of the First Serbian Uprising which was led by Karađorđe. On the same day, in 1835 Sretenje (Candlemas) Constitution was passed on the basis of which Serbia became an independent principality divided in shires, cantons and municipalities.
