Project "Forgotten Admiral"
At the residence of the UK Ambassador to Belgrade, the project "Forgotten Admiral" about British Admiral Ernest Troubridge was presented, showing his role and contribution to the defence of the Serbian capital and assistance to the Serbian Army in the Great War.
The film screening was attended by great-grandson of famous Admiral Tom Troubridge, Denis Keefe, British Ambassador to Serbia and General Sir Gordon Messenger, UK Deputy Chief of Defence Staff, who is on a visit to Serbia.
The project by Sladjana Zarić, a documentary editor in the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation News Programme, will be implemented in co-production of the SBC, the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia and the British Embassy Belgrade.
According to her, while she was filming the documentary "Serbs on Corfu", she revealed another idea to shoot a new movie – Admiral Troubridge.
- During a conversation with the family of Admiral Troubridge, I found more medals than can be found in any home in our country as well as his diaries that he kept during his stay with the Serbian Army. He came to Belgrade in 1915 as a commander of the British mission on the Danube during the defence of the Serbian capital; a few months later he became a personal advisor to Serbian prince-regent Alexander in charge of relations between Kingdom of Serbia and Britain, and stayed with the Serbian Army until 1918. The most interesting detail in the diary is certainly the day when regent Alexander gave him "Karadjordje's star of the second degree", which is a personal medal that he stripped from himself, thus showing how much he trusted him, Sladjana Zarić said noting that at that time only the greatest Serbian field marshals had the same medal.
Project filming and publishing the diary should be completed by May, when the British Embassy in Belgrade will mark 180 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
At the ceremony marking the Day of Odbrana Media Centre, on 24th January, Mr Zoran Djordjević, Minister of Defence, presented Sladjana Zarić with the military memorial medal for contribution to the defence of the Republic of Serbia, as she has achieved extremely fruitful, continuous and successful cooperation with the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces in co-production and technical support to many films that are among the most watched documentaries in Serbia and have the highest rating in the television broadcast when it comes to this category of films. The "Forgotten Admiral" project is another in a series of many films realized jointly by the Ministry of Defence and the SBC.
