Ceremony on the occasion of the Veterans Day
4th December - the Veterans Day was marked tonight by ceremony in the House of Guards in Topcider organized by the Ministry of Defence and the Association for preserving tradition – “Bozuri”.
“The truce in the First Balkan War was signed on that day in 1912. During that time, taking care of old warriors was the responsibility of the Ministry of War. Today we still take care of veterans according to our possibilities, conscious that our care is not enough for what they have done for us. The Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia continues to preserve all our traditions with special care. On behalf of Serbia in which we live today thank you all”, State Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Nenad Neric said.
Besides State Secretary Neric the ceremony was attended by Serbian Armed Forces Chief of General Staff General Ljubisa Dikovic, Deputy Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Jovica Draganic, General Secretary of the President of Serbia Nedeljko Tenjovic, members of Defence Minister and Chief of General Staff collegium, Bishop of Toplica Arsenije on behalf of Patriarchate and Patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church, numerous veterans, members of veterans’ associations, retired generals and admirals and other guests.
Stage programme included great ordeal of Serbia in the period 1912-1999. The veterans, members of their families and officers could see many heroes like Milunka Savic, Field Marshal Stepa Stepanovic, Field Marshal Vuk, the youngest officer in the war history of Momcilo Gavric, poet Milan Rakic and heroes who defended the country in 1999 from the greatest army in the history. Numerous actors, members of the Association “Bozur” and Artistic Ensemble of the Ministry of Defence “Stanislav Binicki” were led by the actress, screenwriter and director Ivana Zigon. At the end, the audience greeted a few veterans from World War II.
