Minister of Defence meets Ambassador of Qatar
Defence Minister Zoran Djordjevic discussed with the Ambassador of Qatar Sheikh Mubarak bin Fahad Al-Thani the development of bilateral military cooperation so far and future directions of its improvement.
At the meeting, they agreed that good political relations between the two countries are the basis for the establishment of better cooperation in defence, and the key step and the legal framework for this should be the signing of a defence cooperation agreement.
Since there are no open issues between the two defence ministries, they discussed the possibility of the exchange of expert delegations with a view to implementing the modalities of future cooperation, especially in the areas of military economy, military education and military medicine. Also, the specific security environment imposes the need to establish cooperation also between the military intelligence and military security services of the two ministries.
Bearing in mind the tradition, quality and capacity of the military health care of Serbia, there is the interest of the Qatari side in education of members of the Armed Forces of the State of Qatar at the undergraduate studies of the MMA Faculty of Medicine, as well as various forms of specialist in-job training. As an additional quality, Minister Djordjevic highlighted the vast experience of our doctors, especially surgeons, who gained their experience in war surgery, unfortunately, during the conflicts in our region.
In the area of military-to-military cooperation, the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia can offer capacities of the Regional CBRN Personnel Training Centre in Krusevac, as well as the South Base Peacekeeping Operations and Pre-Deployment Training Centre.
