Minister Djordjevic visits Joint Military and Police Force
Defence Minister Zoran Djordjevic visited yesterday members of the Joint Military and Police Force in Sector A, which secures part of the border of the Republic of Serbia with the Republic of Macedonia.
Colonel Vladeta Baltic briefed the Minister of Defence about the engagement of forces and the current situation in the area of responsibility and said that members of the Serbian Armed Forces and the Ministry of Interior, through their activities, managed to detect more than 7,500 illegal migrants and capture nearly 50 traffickers.
- It is a pleasure to see that military and police systems work great together towards the same goal. What this engagement shows is that when our country has a problem, there are its own military and police that can solve that problem, Minister Djordjevic said.
During his visit to Sector A, Defence Minister visited the positions of the military and police in Cakanoavc near Presevo and the deployed forces in Miratovac field, where he saw first-hand that the members of the military and the police effectively carried out their tasks of monitoring and detecting the attempts of illegal border crossings. Minister Djordjevic has reviewed the methods and ways of securing the border with the Republic of Macedonia in the form of patrols, checkpoints and ambushes.
- It is impressive to see that the soldiers and police officers also here towards Macedonia, and towards Bulgaria, by their activities, practically closed the border preventing the passage of illegal migrants – Djordjevic said.
He added that the military and the police are ready for a possible higher pressure of migrants from Bulgaria and Macedonia, and that the results achieved by these two systems forced illegal migrants to look for new routes to their final destination.
