Delegation of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces laid a wreath at the memorial ossuary to the fallen heroes of the Battle of Cer within a memorial service ceremony marking the 102nd anniversary of the Battle of Cer in Tekeris near Loznica.
On that occasion, the wreaths were laid by Dragan Popovic, State Secretary of the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs, who headed the state ceremony, representatives of the City of Loznica, the embassies of the Slovak Republic and the Czech Republic as well as representatives of numerous associations and citizens committed to preserving tradition of the Serbia’s liberation wars.
After a short artistic programme, the present citizens were addressed by Ljubinko Djokic, Assistant Mayor of Loznica and Dragan Popovic, State Secretary, particularly emphasizing the heroism of Serbian soldiers and that we as descendants are obliged to cherish the memory of their sacrifice. The organizer of the gathering is the Government's Committee for preserving the tradition of Serbia’s liberation wars.
The Battle of Cer, which took place in August 1914, is one of the most important and biggest victories of the Serbian Army during the entire First World War. That is, at the same time, a dazzling example of a tactically well-designed and delivered military operation. Having achieved the victory in the famous Battle of Cer members of the Serbian Army led by General Stepa Stepanovic provided an example of the immeasurable courage and patriotism that remained ingrained in the collective consciousness of the nation to the present days.
