Meeting of Deputy Chiefs of General Staffs of Serbia and Bulgaria



Lieutenant General Jovica Draganic, Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces has met today with his Bulgarian counterpart, Major General Plamen Atanasov at the Gradina border crossing near Dimitrovgrad.

At the meeting, they discussed the current security situation along the Serbia-Bulgaria border and bilateral military cooperation.

General Draganic informed General Atanasov about the decision of the Serbian Government on establishment and engagement of joint military and police forces on the border with Bulgaria and presented the results achieved in preventing illegal entries by migrants on border crossings to Serbia.

According to General Atanasov, Bulgaria is facing the same problems, with most Bulgarian troops deployed on the border with Turkey, which has not prevented deployment of troops along the borders with other neighbouring countries, including Serbia.

The military delegations of the two countries also discussed possibilities for enhancing bilateral cooperation through joint exercises, shooting at the Shabla testing ground and the use of simulators for Mig 29 airplane, primarily for training of Bulgarian pilots in our country.

The meeting was attended also by Major General Zelimir Glisovic, Commander of the joint military and police forces involved in protecting the state border with Bulgaria, Colonel Nebojsa Puric, Police Adviser from the Serbian Border Police Directorate and Colonel Antonio Angelov, Director of Bulgaria’s Border Police, as well as defence attachés of both countries.
