Enhanced cooperation with the United Arab Emirates
Defence Minister Zoran Djordjevic and Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates Juma Rashid Al Dhaheri. discussed further promotion of cooperation in the field of defence.
They agreed that cooperation between the two countries was good, but it is possible and necessary to work on its further enhancement. Since the Republic of Serbia is a reliable partner of the United Arab Emirates, Minister Djordjevic expressed his hope that the level of defence cooperation will soon reach the level of the overall bilateral relations between Serbia and the Emirates.
It was noted that there is great potential for intensifying military-economic and scientific and technical cooperation, but also for the cooperation between intelligence and security services, especially given the current problem of terrorism in the world.
During the meeting, they emphasized that the Agreement on Defence Cooperation is a basic legal framework for further cooperation, but what is also important is Joint Statement on the establishment of strategic partnership, as well as commercial contracts on joint development of arms and military equipment, from which Serbia expects a lot.
Djordjevic pointed out that Serbia is leading an independent foreign policy, cooperating with other partners in the East and the West, as well as with international organizations in accordance with the foreign policy priorities. In the search for answers to current challenges, members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces are actively involved in all the events, as evidenced by the current joint engagement with members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and other stakeholders in the protection of the state border.
