General Draganic at SEE DCHOD Meeting



Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Jovica Draganic, participated in the meeting of Deputy Chiefs of Defence of South-Eastern Europe Defence Ministerial (SEDM) that has been held today in Sarajevo.

At the meeting which included delegations of 13 countries – members of the SEDM Initiative (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Greece, Georgia, Italy, Macedonia, Romania, Turkey, Slovenia, Serbia, Croatia and Montenegro) and delegations of international organizations, it was jointly concluded that the regional military cooperation is of great importance for security and stability in the region and that coordinated efforts must be maintained in order to respond to common security threats.

General Draganic in his address emphasized the importance of regional cooperation and informed the participants in the meeting about the engagement of the Serbian Armed Forces in the international exercises and participation in multinational operations under the auspices of the United Nations and the European Union. He also stressed the commitment of the Republic of Serbia to participation in the Helbrok European Union battle group, led by the Hellenic Republic.

The South-Eastern Europe Defence Ministerial (SEDM) represents a process of cooperation among the Ministries of Defence of South-Eastern European countries which was launched at a meeting of Ministers of Defence held in Tirana, in March 1996, and the Republic of Serbia became its member in October 2009. The main objective of SEDM is to improve understanding and intensify political and military cooperation in the region, in order to strengthen security in this part of Europe.
