Intensifying defence cooperation with Russia
Head of the International Military Cooperation Department Navy Captain Milan Konjikovac and defence attaché of the Russian Federation in Belgrade, Colonel Andrei AndreyevichKindjakov, signed the2016 Bilateral Military Cooperation Programme. On that occasion, they emphasized mutual satisfaction with the substantial progress indefencecooperation. This applies particularly to the continuity of high-level visits, primarily to participation of the Minister of Defence ZoranDjordjevicin the 5th Moscow Conference onInternational Security, as well as the upcoming visit of the Serbian Armed ForcesChief of General Staff General LjubisaDikovicto the Russian Federation.
Navy Captain Konjikovac expressed gratitude to the Russian Federation for the support provided for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Serbia and our efforts to solve the problems in the area of Kosovo and Metohija by peaceful means, through dialogue between the parties concerned. He particularly emphasized that Serbia continues to apply the proclaimed military neutrality, and that it will continue to cooperate on an equal footing with all partners, based on mutual respect and appreciation.
Colonel Kindjakov agreed that thedefence cooperation reached high level of general and political bilateral relations, and that efforts will be made to maintain that level also in the forthcoming period. He also confirmed the commitment to continue to develop and intensify mutually beneficial military-to-military, military-technical, military-educational and military medical cooperation.
In a constructive atmosphere, they exchanged opinions on the current political and security situation in the region and the world, reviewing bilateral military cooperation and modalities for the successful implementation of the planned activities.
