Enhancing the regional cooperation



The fundaments of defence cooperation with Romania in 2016 were established by the signing of the Bilateral Military Cooperation Programme between the defence ministries of Serbia and Romania at the Department for International Military Cooperation.

Head of the Department for International Military Cooperation, Navy Captain Milan Konjikovac, and Defence Attaché Colonel Leontin Ilie of Romania assessed that defence cooperation was developed and that the commitment and potentials for its improvement should be taken advantage of.

Navy Captain Konjikovac stressed the importance of high-level meetings for establishing guidelines and directions of cooperation, which will be contribute to by the planned meetings of the defence ministers and chiefs of general staffs. He conveyed the determination to continue the cooperation through joint exercises and training, which significantly contribute to raising the operational capabilities of the two armies.

Colonel Ilie pointed out that the traditional friendly relations between the two countries are a basis for the promotion of cooperation, according to the economic possibilities and expressed the hope that holding of the bilateral defence consultations would contribute to a better understanding and finding modalities for intensifying cooperation.

The interlocutors exchanged views on the current political and security situation in the region, and stressed the necessity to undertake joint activities for a comprehensive solution to the security threats.
