Marking anniversary of the death of Field Marshal Stepa Stepanovic



On the occasion of marking the 87th anniversary of the death of Field Marshal Stepa Stepanovic, a state ceremony has been held at the cemetery in Cacak today.

Delegation of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, led by Brigadier General Mile Jelic, commander of the Third Army Brigade, laid a wreath by the monument of the famous Field Marshal Stepa Stepanovic.

Apart from the members of the Armed Forces, wreaths were laid also by the delegations of the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs, Moravica Administrative District, the City of Cacak, veterans' associations and associations of reserve officers.

Stepa Stepanovic was born in Kumodraz near Belgrade in 1856, and died in Cacak on this day in 1929.

His biggest successes on the battlefield were the Battle of Adrianople in 1912 and on Cer in 1914.

Contribution of Field Marshal Stepa Stepanovic to the victory of the Serbian Army in the Balkan Wars and the First World War was immeasurable. He was the holder of a number of high-ranked Serbian and foreign decorations.
