The soldier a pillar of trust of the citizens of Serbia
The recently published research by the Centre for Free Elections and Democracy showed once again that the Serbian Armed Forces is an institution which the citizens of our country trust the most (62 percent of respondents declared positive opinion about the Armed Forces).
Citizens had a high percentage of trust in the Armed Forces also in 2015, also according to the research by the Centre for Free Elections and Democracy done for the needs of the Ombudsman. Then, 61 percent of respondents declared positive opinion about the Armed Forces.
In 2014, as well, the Armed Forces was an institution the most trusted (survey conducted in November 2014 by TNS Media Gallup for the needs of the OSCE Mission in Serbia). At that time, 50 percent of the citizens had confidence in the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, which was an increase of as much as 15 percent compared to 2013.
The results clearly show an increase in confidence from year to year.
If we bear in mind the fact that this period characterized by the involvement of the Serbian Armed Forces in the third mission, that is, to help the civilian population, it can be concluded that the citizens of Serbia highly appreciate and respect, above all, their soldiers.
During natural disasters – floods, avalanches, droughts and other emergencies, members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces were continuously with their citizens and help them to overcome the trouble. They assisted in water supply, building roads, treated residents in hard-to-reach villages.
The most important engagement was definitely during the emergency in May 2014. For the purpose of flood control more than 4000 members of the Armed Forces at 50 locations throughout Serbia.
In the days when we celebrate the Serbian Armed Forces Day, the citizens' trust makes happy and proud.
