General Dikovic visits the Slovenian rmed Forces
Serbian Armed Forces Chief of General Staff Ljubisa Dikovic met today in Ljubljana with the Chief of General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces, Major General Andrej Osterman. Generals Dikovic and Osterman discussed the current security situation in the region, past and upcoming bilateral military cooperation, regional military cooperation and exercises and experiences of the Slovenian Armed Forces from their engagement in the European Union combat groups.
At the meeting between the two chiefs of general staff they concluded that the defence cooperation between Serbia and Slovenia is good and that there is room for its further improvement, and the delegation of the Serbian Armed Forces was presented the Mountain Warfare Centre of Excellence (MW COE). Cooperation between Serbia and Slovenia in the regional initiatives was rated as good and successful, and the recent evidence of such cooperation is the signing of an agreement on the formation of the Balkan Medical Task Force in which, apart from Serbia and Slovenia, also Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Macedonia take part.
The Serbian Chief of General Staff stressed that it is important that Serbia and Slovenia continue to develop defence cooperation both at the bilateral level and within the regional initiatives, bearing in mind that they share the security interests and security challenges, risks and threats.
The most important areas of cooperation between the two armies are the development of the NCO corps, training and advancement of personnel, as well as cooperation of special units, operational centres and military archives. During 2016 it is expected that the members of the Slovenian Armed Forces take part in exercise "Platinum Wolf 16" which will be held in May, and two members of the Serbian Armed Forces are currently participating in the 9th International Winter Camp in the Pokljuka Winter Training Centre.
During his stay in Slovenia General Dikovic also met with Defence Minister Andrej Katic and President of the Defence Committee of the Slovenian Parliament Zan Mahnic, as well as the Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to Ljubljana Aleksandar Radovanovic.
During the visit, the delegation led by the Serbian Armed Forces Chief of General Staff will visit the First Brigade of the Slovenian Armed Forces and the Mountain Warfare Centre of Excellence (MW COE).
