Prime Minister and Defence Minister in Obrenovac
Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic accompanied by Defence Minister Zoran Djordjevic, Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic, Chief of the Sector for Emergency Situations Predrag Maric, representatives of the Serbian Armed Forces, Red Cross, Ministry of Interior, Srbijavoda (Serbia hydro system) and PE Roads of Serbia, visited the embankment Cikovac at Veliko Polje near Obrenovac.
On that occasion he thanked the military and the police and all the services and institutions as well as the citizens who have worked on prevention and flood relief in the previous days and announced that during the day the Government will make the decision on the termination of the state of emergency in the country.
- I wish to thank you all, that in one week which was difficult for Serbia you have shown once again your love for your country and were willing to risk your lives for other people, Vucic said adding that the state will continue to do everything to help its citizens, but that the energy of people who help others requires special recognition.
Conveying the words of gratitude to those whose job is to rescue people, but also to those whose it is not, he recalled that during the past activities a total of 978 members of our forces were engaged, and that another 1700 were on full alert.
This is a great power and energy and the state of Serbia owes these people great gratitude, because the residents of Obrenovac, but also in the whole of Serbia, felt safer when they saw on every hundred meters one of the guards who was worried about whether the Kolubara River was going to break the embankment somewhere, Vucic said confirming that in the past two years 304 water facilities and 29 dams were built on the water streams, while in the previous 25 years, a total of 19 of these were built.
- We will continue to deal with this business, and as for Obrenovac, which, with the three rivers, is one of the most beautiful places to live in, we are going to build 5 dams and reservoirs in its vicinity which will be able at all times to accept water that would pour out here, so that the citizens of Obrenovac will never have a reason to fear.
Vucic said that the state will do everything to reach the level of protection of the citizens that the developed countries have and that we are on a good track to achieve this goal.
