Enhancing cooperation with China
Defence Minister Zoran Djordjevic met today with the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China Li Manchang, with whom he discussed the promotion of cooperation in the field of defence.
In an open discussion, it was pointed out that the People's Republic of China is one of the most important strategic partners and most reliable friends of our country, and that the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia gives its full contribution to maintaining the high level of cooperation and relations between the two friendly countries.
Minister Djordjevic expressed his gratitude for China's support to the legitimate efforts of Serbia to resolve the situation in Kosovo and Metohija in a peaceful manner through diplomatic efforts by our officials, despite the extremely complex situation and numerous challenges.
Also, he expressed a firm and principled support to the policy of 'one China', fully respecting and appreciating its views in relation to resolving the issues of Taiwan, Tibet and Xinjiang.
The Defence Minister conveyed to his interlocutor that we wish to achieve partnership both in the East and the West, to the satisfaction and to the benefit of all the stakeholders, and that we remain consistent in the uncompromised implementation of military neutrality. He added that the significant participation of the Serbian Armed Forces at the military parade in Beijing was another practical demonstration of our attitude and a great mutual respect between the two countries.
It was noted that Serbia is the regional leader by its participation in the UN and EU multinational operations, thus promoting regional cooperation and giving its full contribution to the world peace and security.
They exchanged views on foreign policy priorities and discussed the current issues related to migrant crisis and other regional and global security challenges.
It was concluded that cooperation in the field of defence is excellent, but there is enough room for its further improvement and intensification, in order to maintain a high level of traditionally good relations between the two friendly countries.
