138 years of Nis Military Hospital marked



Обележено 138 година Војне болнице НишIn Military Club in Nis today a ceremony was held which marked the Day of the Military Hospital in Nis - 22 January and 138 years since the establishment of the Military Hospital for thousands of wounded and ill. The celebration was attended by State Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Zoran Djordjevic, Army Commander Lieutenant General Milosav Simovic, representatives of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, the City of Nis and Nisava Administrative District as well as representatives of the military-medical and civilian medical healthcare institutions.

Chief of the Military Healthcare Department Colonel Ugljesa Jovicic stressed the importance of military medical service and the Military Hospital in Nis as a leading institution in the south of Serbia in the field of military health care.

Members of the Nis military hospital have built for decades and centuries the reputation of the institution, and have left to the coming generations the vow to upgrade, improve and overcome their ancestors in preserving and improving the health of the members of the Armed Forces and citizens from the south of Serbia, Jovicic said.

That the Military Hospital Nis is a military medical institution whose main activity is treatment and medical care for the wounded and ill in the primary, secondary and tertiary level of health care was confirmed by hospital Director Colonel Goran Damjanovic, who emphasized that the signing of the contract with the NHIF office for Nisava District has strengthened cooperation with all healthcare institutions in the city and its surroundings, and that a particularly important task is to care for migrants in Presevo.

Обележено 138 година Војне болнице НишColonel Damjanovic emphasized the continuity of deployment of members of the Military Hospital in Nis in peacekeeping operations from 1973 to last year, when 35 people took part in peacekeeping operations.

The Military Hospital Nis has marched for 136 years with its army and written proud pages of history. The citizens of south Serbia remember that this health institution made a significant contribution in the Serbian-Turkish wars, helped the formation of the District Hospital in Nis, the first surgery and the first preventive health institution in the Balkans - the Pasteur Institute. Nis Military Hospital is the only maintained medical institution from the Kingdom of Serbia, which crossed the path of the Albanian Golgotha with the people and the soldiers and upon arrival to the island of Corfu continued with organized activities and preparations for the breakthrough of the Thessalonica front. Similarly, members of the Military Hospital in Nis were also deployed in World War II and during the 1999 war.
