17th Memorial Regatta Zoran Radosavljevic held
On Saturday, 23rd May, and Sunday, 24th May, at the Danube and the Sava in Belgrade, the 17th Memorial Regatta “Zoran Radosavljevic” was held in the memory of pilot and yachtsman Major Zoran Radosavljevic, member of the 127th fighting escadrille “Knights” of the Yugoslav Forces, who died defending his country on 27th March, 1999.
At the regatta, which has been enlisted among sports manifestations of great importance for Belgrade, 16 yacht crews competed in “micro” division – 5,5 meters long with 3-member crews and “cruiser” – over 5,5 meters long with numerous crew members. At the Marine on the coast of the Sava between the Ada Bridge and the New Railway Bridge, 55 boys and girls to age 14 competed in the “optimist” division.
At the “cruiser” division, after careful collection and adding the results from the first and the second day, the 1st place was won by the crew of the “Imagine” ship, led by skipper Dragan Stojsavljevic. At “micro” division, the best results were achieved by “PSTech” with skipper Goran Stevanovic. Among the youngest competitors, Ada Lomic from Yachting Club Gemaks and Mark Yuill from AJK Yachting Club scored best results.
Organizers of the regatta were the “Zoran Radosavljevic” Association, Yacht Club Zemun and the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces. Frigate Captain Svetislav Soskic, coordinator of the regatta, pointed out that significant help had been provided by the Ministry of Interior of Serbia – the Marine Police, Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Port Captaincy, the First Steamboat Association and “Beomarina”, Foundry “Bosnjacki”, and Amblem Company.
- Members of the Riverine Flotilla provided the regatta field, cadets of the Military Academy assisted in organization of the regatta and competed in yacht crews, while members of the Air Force performed flypasts in “Gazela” helicopters and symbolically marked the beginning of the regatta, in memory of their colleague Zoran Radosavljevic – Soskic added.
The Memorial Yacht Regatta “Zoran Radosavljevic” was first held in 1999 in Montenegro, and since May 2007 has been organized in Belgrade.
