Seminar on gender equality for MoD and SAF members
A seminar was held today in the Central Military Club about gender equality in the defence system, attended by MoD and SAF members that hold duties related to the public relations.
During the one-day seminar organized by the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Defence and SEESAC UNDP, the participants had the opportunity to advance their knowledge and skills in recognizing media reporting without discrimination in the defence sector.
Opening the seminar, Head of the Division for Informing and Internet of the Public Relations Department Dr. Mihailo Zogovic stressed the great role that media have in promotion of gender-sensitive reporting, particularly stressing that the Ministry of Defence, among similar institutions, leads in implementation of gender equality principles. He also conveyed his belief that today’s seminar would contribute to the creation of ambient where gender equality issues would be treated in a contemporary way.
According to Danijela Djurovic from SEESAC UNDP office in Belgrade, the MoD and SAF representatives are a part of the regional network of defence ministries with 33 instructors in the field of gender equality, who have trained around 1500 officers and soldiers in how to contribute to prevention of discrimination in the defence system.
With lecturers from the Ministry of Defence, the participants were also addressed by former Commissioner for Protection of Equality, Nevena Petrusic PhD, who spoke about the legal framework and the terminology of discrimination, and publicist of Danas Jelena Dikovic, who spoke about postulates of media reporting without discrimination, and examples from the practice with the focus on the security system.
