In memory of killed heroes of the Battle of Kolubara

At the Church of St. Archangel Gavrilo, a liturgy and memorial service were held today for killed heroes of the Battle of Kolubara. Precisely 100 years ago, on November 16, 1914, one of the most important battles of the Great War began. Over 22,000 Serbian soldiers were killed during this battle.

The service was also attended by Head of the General Staff of Serbia General Ljubisa Dikovic with members of the Collegium, representatives of the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Serbia, Military Academy cadets and students of the Military Grammar School.

On this occasion, Bishop of Toplice Arsenije, who held the liturgy, handed the Gramota of Serbian Patriarch Irinej to Lieutenant Colonel Mikan Vasiljevic from the Department for Religion at the Human resources Department of the General Staff for his credit for implementation of religious service and liturgical spaces at the Armed Forces of Serbia.

According to Bishop Arsenije, as of today, this church becomes a temple where members of the defence system can fulfill their spiritual needs.

The Church of St. Archangel Gavrilo in Humska Street was built in memory of the Serbian soldiers killed in the Great War. The construction of the temple was personally financed by Milan Vukicevic, warrior of Thessaloniki, carrier of the Albanian Commemorative Medal and a post-war member of the Parliament and his wife Radmila, and they were buried at their endowment.
