Improving military cooperation with Azerbaijan
During his two-day visit to Azerbaijan, Minister of Defence Bratislav Gasic met with Colonel-General Zakir Hasanov, Minister of Defence of Azerbaijan.
With belief that the visit will improve the cooperation between the two countries in the field of defence, Minister Gasic thanked the hosts for their donation of 400,000 euros, which was sent to Serbia among the first ones during the floods.
The two ministers concluded that there is a realistic basis for improving bilateral military cooperation, for which the formally legal frame had been created in February, when the Agreement on Defence Cooperation was signed. The main points are military economic cooperation and participation in multinational exercises, as well as development of military educational and military medical cooperation.
Considering the developed capacity of the special purpose industry in Serbia, Gasic and Hasanov stated that improving and expanding transfer technologies and means of weaponry and military equipment is also possible.
Gasic emphasized his contentment with participation of members of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan during the multinational tactical exercise “Platinum Wolf 2014”, and participation of five members in "Viking 14”, international computer-assisted command post exercise.
“I hope that, in the future period, we will secure continuity of participating in multinational exercises. Especially since, as of 2015, “South” base should start working as a regional and international units training center for multinational operations. Educating Azerbaijani soldiers in Serbian military educational institutions, such as the Military Academy and Military Medical Academy, would enable us to get to know each other better and develop friendly relations.”
Minister Gasic also laid wreaths on the grave of Heydar Aliyev, the national leader, visited the Alley of Honor and signed the Book of Honor. During the rest of his visit, Minister Gasic will meet with President Ilham Aliyev, Prime Minister Artur Rasizade, and Yavar Jamalov, Minister of Defence Industry.
