Consecration of military chapel in "Top�ider" barracks



In "Topčider" barracks today, the military chapel of the Holy Martyr Theodore Tyron has been consecrated.

The consecration of the temple and the first Holy Liturgy, served by Patriarch Irinej of Serbia, concelebrated by priests of the Serbian Orthodox Church, was attended by Lieutenant General Jovica Draganic, Deputy Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, HRH Aleksandar Karadjordjevic, as well as numerous members of the Serbian Armed Forces.

- This is a great day for all of us, for the Serbian Armed Forces, and the entire Serbian nation. In the days when we celebrate the resurrection of Christ and his victory over death, we consecrated the religious temple, this magnificent chapel dedicated to Theodore Tyron, а soldier, martyr, who, in ancient times, suffered for Christ and the Christian faith. The construction of this temple in these barracks and the Training Command and the return of the army to the religion, we continue the tradition of the Serbian army in cherishing the spiritual and moral values which the Serbian soldier pursued through the glorious history, Patriarch Irinej of Serbia said.

After a solemn religious ceremony, a procession was held which included members of the Serbian Armed Forces from the "Topčider" barracks. At the end of the ceremony, Major General Djokica Petrovic, Commander of the Training Command, presented a plaque to Patriarch Irinej, who gave the commander of the Training Command Gramata of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
