Intensification of military cooperation with Sweden



Delegation of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia , headed by Acting Chief of the Department for International Military Cooperation Colonel Milan Konjikovac , paid a visit to the Armed Forces of the Kingdom of Sweden on 11 up to 13 December 2013 , on the occasion of regular bilateral consultations and signing bilateral military cooperation plan for in 2014.

Colonel Konjikovac informed his interlocutors of the achieved level of defense reform in the Reprublic of Serbia the current engagement of the Army of Serbia in multinational operations , and plans for the future.

The Ministry of Defence was encouraged by the Swedish decision to sign for first time bilateral military cooperation plan with a certain state in 2013, and the fact that over the years the percentage of implementation activities was at a very high level.

- The Republic of Serbia is pleased with the support of the Nordic partners , in particular the intention of the Armed Forces of the Kingdom of Sweden to the already existing projects continue to support Serbia , but also to open up new areas of cooperation , said Colonel Konjikovac .

In the following part of the discussion , participants discussed the priorities of cooperation with the European Union as major mechanisms of cooperation within the Partnership for Peace . Colonel Konjikovac gave special attention to the achievements of the Ministry of Defence in implementing the National Action Plan for the UN resolution 1325 and thanked the initiative of the Kingdom of Sweden for the establishment and support of the most active in the group of member states Serbian friends in Brussels.

The Head of the International Sector of the armed forces of the Kingdom of Sweden, Colonel Leonard Danielson agreed that the two countries have many similarities and pointed out the intent of Sweden to improve the current level of cooperation , given that Serbia is seen as a major partner in the Western Balkans . He pointed out that Sweden strongly supports Serbia's European integration and is ready to assist in this process.
During the talks, bilateral military cooperation plan for in 2014 was agreed on and signed, which compared to the previous year, contains significantly more activity .

During the official visit, the delegation of the Ministry of Defence was acquainted with the International Centre of the Armed Forces of the Kingdom of Sweden and the possibilities that in the future members of the MoD and take courses in the field of gender equality , as well as training for participation in international peacekeeping operations . It also initiated a meeting with representatives of the Folke Bernadotte Academy , a state agency of Sweden , which aims at strengthening the quality and effectiveness of international conflict and crisis management , with a particular focus on international peacekeeping operations .
