Benefit concert “Selo gori...”



On Sunday evening, the large benefit concert of the symphonic music from the series “Selo gori, a baba se ceslja” was held in the Great Hall of Sava Center. The concert was an outcome of the cooperation between the Ministry of Defence and Contrast Studios. The funds raised from the tickets’ sales are allocated to the Serbian Institute for Oncology and Radiology for the purchase of the most advanced microscope for histopathological analysis.

The fans of the series and of good and quality music could enjoy listening to Sanja Ilic’s 18 compositions, which were masterfully performed by the Defence Ministry’s symphonic orchestra “Stanislav Binicki”, choir of the singing society “Stankovic”, numerous instrumental soloist, as well as vocal soloists Nevena Paripovic and Suzana Suvakovic Savic. The composer himself joined the stage to perform the final composition.

Along with the large audience, the concert was attended by the Defence Minister of the Republic of Serbia Dragan Sutanovac, Chief of General Staff Miloje Miletic, ministers in the Government, representatives of the Defence Ministry, Serbian Armed Forces and cultural life.

At the concert’s press conference, Sanja Ilic said he hoped that to those who, on December 4, found themselves in the Great Hall of Center Sava because of his music, the life would, even for the moment, be made nicer. Judging by the satisfied faces of the audience, his hopes were realized.

Aleksandar Sanja Ilic is one of the most successful composers of the diverse musical genres in Serbia. He is a founder of the music group “Balkanika”, which works towards developing authentic ethno sound. Ilic has devoted a substantial part of his career to composing music for theatre plays, musicals, TV series and movies.
