Nadzeda Petrovic gallery in SAF Military Club



Exhibition of paintings and sculptures from the collections of the Art Gallery "Nadezda Petrovic" from Cacak was presented tonight to Belgrade audience in the gallery of the Central Military Club. According to the director of the Media Center's "Odbrana," Lt. Col. Slavoljub Markovic, this was the first visit of Cacak Art Gallery "Nadezda Petrovic" to the capital in 50 years of its existence. After visiting about thirty cities in Serbia, Montenegro and the Serbian Republic, the 50 years of existence of the gallery was an occasion for the exhibition to include these paintings into the art calendar of the Central Military Club.

Addressing the assembled guests, the author of the exhibition, the director of the Cacak Art Gallery Milica Petronijevic stressed that during the five decades of existence the Gallery had organized over 300 exhibitions in Cacak, and other 40 cities from Maribor to Vranje, presenting the works of more than thousand visual artists .

- 40 paintings and 8 sculptures are exhibited here which are the work of 41 authors in the collection "Nadezhda and Contemporaries" and "Yugoslav art of the second half of the 20th century ". They are a kind of insight into the development of Serbian art in the century behind us- said the director of the Cacak Gallery, adding that the name of the great artist the gallery bears obliges us to remember her art and her legacy.

The collections of the Art Gallery "Nadezda Petrovic" include 1,300 pieces as authentic chroniclers of programs and exhibitions this gallery has organized in its 50 years of existence.

Nadezda Petrovic, born in Cacak on 12th October 1873, is the most important Serbian painter of the late 19th and 20th century. Her paintings introduced Serbian art in the mainstream of contemporary European art, and thanks to her spirit which longed for the great Europe. In the First Balkan War, participating as a volunteer nurse at the front, and the Serbian army to rejoin the 1913th and 1914. year. She died in Santiago from typhus, which was on duty nurses.

After the exhibitions "The road to the painting," of the paintings of Sava Sumanovic and “Serbian rulers and military leaders" in the works of visual artists from the collection of the Military Museum, which attracted considerable public attention, an exhibition of paintings and sculptures from the collections of the Art Gallery" Nadezda Petrovic" from Cacak is another significant cultural event. It confirms the commitment of the Media Center "ODBRANA" to organize the exhibition Serbian representative artists in cooperation with museums, galleries, foundations, bequests and other cultural institutions in our country.

The exhibition will be open until 4 May, followed by an exhibition of paintings by Momo Kapor, the first to be opened after his death.
