Congratulatory message from President of the Republic on the Serbian Armed Forces Day
The President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, has sent a message extending his best wishes to the Minister of Defence, Bratislav Gašić, Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović, and all members of the Serbian Armed Forces on the Serbian Armed Forces Day. The message reads as follows:
I would like to congratulate all members of the Serbian Armed Forces on 23rd April – the Serbian Armed Forces Day and 210 years’ jubilee.
On this day, we remember the year 1815, when the Second Serbian Uprising broke out, as the critical moment in the creation of the modern Serbian state. That historical event, driven by our belief in freedom, is of particular importance for our national history, being a permanent source and inspiration, not only for Serbian people, but also for our armed forces.
The Serbian Armed Forces are a guardian of the glorious tradition of Serbian people, embodiment of courage, honour and determination to fight for freedom. Today, as it has been over the centuries, we proudly remember all those who laid down their lives for the fatherland.
In modern conditions, the Serbian Armed Forces are continuously developing their capacities, strengthening capabilities and enhancing combat readiness. In the recent period, the Republic of Serbia has invested a great deal of resources and effort in equipping the Armed Forces. Apart from modernisation of the equipment and weapons, we pay special attention to investment in human resources through better living and working conditions; we are increasing salaries and income, investing in housing programs, career development, as well as incentives for young people willing to join the ranks of the Serbian Armed Forces. Enhancement of the training system, civil-military cooperation and active participation in peacekeeping operations and joint exercises contribute to our growing international reputation and operational readiness.
It is our common duty not only to preserve peace, but also to be prepared all the time to protect the people and the state. The Serbian Armed Forces defend not only the borders, but also the dignity, tradition and value of the people.
Thank you for serving your fatherland honourably and responsibly. May this important day be an impetus for your further success and progress, and I am certain that we will continue to strengthen the Serbian Armed Forces in the interest of future generations, relying on our tradition and looking towards modernisation and knowledge.
Long live the Serbian Armed Forces!
Long live Serbia!
