Press release

The Ministry of Defence strongly denies and rejects the malicious interpretations of regular activities carried out by MoD Centres (former recruitment centres) made by certain media outlets. The aforementioned activities are carried out continuously throughout the year, in accordance with the Law on Conscription, Compulsory Labour and Requisition and the Law on Defence.

We stress that decisions on assignment to jobs at wartime or during a state of emergency are made by managers of state bodies, directors of legal entities, and responsible persons at businesses, and not by the Ministry of Defence Centres, as can be inferred from the biased media reports.

MoD Centres have an exclusive competence for labour planning involving the personnel of all state bodies, companies, other legal entities and entrepreneurs that deal with activities of particular importance for defence, protection and rescue, which, we underscore, is an activity carried out regularly and continuously throughout the year and cannot in any way be linked to the current social and political situation.

Compulsory labour is the right and duty of the citizens of the Republic of Serbia which they fulfil at their workplaces or at the specified jobs and tasks during a state of emergency and at wartime in accordance with the Defence Plan of the Republic of Serbia.

The Ministry of Defence calls upon all political parties and movements, non-governmental organizations and media outlets not to cause public disturbance and harm the interests of the Republic of Serbia by distributing untrue and unverified information and making false and malicious interpretations of issues related to the country's defence planning.
