Acting Assistant Minister for Defence Policy met today with the Ambassador for Policy Planning at the Strategy Unit of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, Klaus Korhonen. The purpose of Ambassador Korhonen’s visit, which was organized at the invitation of the Embassy of the Republic of Finland in Belgrade, as NATO’s Contact Point Embassy to the Republic of Serbia in matters of public diplomacy, was to discuss topics of mutual interest.
The meeting was an opportunity to exchange positions on military neutrality in the current security context, the cooperation between the Serbian Ministry of Defence and NATO under the Partnership for Peace programme, European security architecture, and the plans of Contact Point Embassies. Assistant Minister Bandić said that “Serbia is a committed and reliable partner whose determination to remain a neutral country shows Serbia’s character in the international environment”. Serbia, he added, will continue to pursue a principled and consistent policy based on respect for international law, non-interference in the domestic affairs of sovereign state and commitment to the peaceful settlement of all disputes, and will protect its independence and sovereignty with available legal and other means.
