Operational capability of forces for CBRN defence

Our CBRN units are equipped and trained to organize and provide CBRN protection to SAF personnel during operations and to assist civil authorities in remediating the effects of natural disasters, and technological and other accidents.
The most significant unit of this kind is the 246th CBRN Battalion, whose purpose is to ensure security of the Serbian Armed Forces units in situations where weapons of mass destruction are used.

In order to maintain and improve the capability and readiness to carry out specific tasks in all three missions of the Serbian Armed Forces, the unit members undergo continuous training, practising techniques, actions and procedures till they become automatic in accordance with the adopted procedures and highest standards in this field.

The focus of this training cycle, which is being conducted at the Ravnjak Training Area in Kruševac, is on individual training in performing the tasks of protecting the Serbian Armed Forces against nuclear and chemical accidents, i.e. in performing radiological-chemical-biological decontamination of people, weapons, equipment, soil and structures above ground.
The training process involves the use of insulating equipment that provides full protection of personnel working with contaminants, detection, dosimetry and decontamination equipment, the most significant of which is the domestically produced modern MPD-09 (mobile decontamination platform), as well as sources simulating ionizing radiation.

Successful training at the 246th CBRN Battalion further improves the skills of its professional soldiers necessary to perform their tasks during SAF operations, and enhances the unit’s readiness to provide effective support to civil authorities in alleviating the impacts of technological and other accidents.
