Commemorative stamp to mark Military Academy Day
On the occasion of 175 years since the establishment of military education in Serbia, PE “Pošta Srbije” has issued a commemorative stamp.
The aforementioned special issue comprises a booklet of eight stamps and a stamped envelope (FDC), featuring a detail from an 1861 watercolour painting entitled “Military Academy Cadet”, the Academy Emblem (1850-1880) and a scene from a new officers’ commissioning ceremony held in Belgrade. The Military Academy of the Defence University provided professional collaboration in creating the commemorative stamp, while graphic designer Nadežda Skočajić was responsible for the artistic concept.
Military Academy Day, celebrated on March 18, commemorates the day when Prince Aleksandar Karađorđević signed the decision to establish the Artillery School in 1850 - the first military higher education institution in Serbia, whose tradition is upheld today by the Military Academy in Belgrade.Photo: Pošta Srbije
