Remembrance Day of March Pogrom in Kosovo and Metohija marked

A ceremony commemorating March 17, 2004, the pogrom against Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, was held tonight at Belgrade’s National Theatre, with the envoy of the President of the Republic, Prime Minister Miloš Vučević, in attendance.
The ceremony marking the March Pogrom Remembrance Day was attended by Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić.

On that occasion, the Prime Minister said that “the pogrom that took place on that March day is another contribution to the huge book of suffering that the Serbian people have endured for centuries in the territory of our southern province”.
- Kosovo Polje in 1389 has become a symbol of our sacrifice in defence of our right to exist, but also a ray of hope that despite all the pressure, injustice and violence, we will achieve golden freedom. That very ray has engraved in our hearts and souls the vow that has brought us together and sustained us throughout centuries. It is a dream and faith in the Serbian state, and within it, God promised our country Kosovo and Metohija – said the Prime Minister.

Addressing the audience, he stressed that in the 21st century, a pogrom was organized in Europe against civilians.
  - Armed hordes of extremists attacked Serbian enclaves throughout Kosovo and Metohija. In only 48 hours, six cities and 10 villages were ethnically cleansed. Eight Serbs were brutally killed, another two succumbed to their injuries, 930 Serb houses were burned to the ground, and 4,012 Serbs were expelled from their centuries-old homes – the Prime Minister recalled, adding that our people in Kosovo and Metohija live under constant pressure, and that today we are witnesses to open, daily discrimination and violation of basic human rights.
The ceremony, organized by the Serbian government’s Committee for Nurturing the Traditions of the Liberation Wars of Serbia, was attended by representatives of the Serbian National Assembly, government ministers, the President of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska, Nenad Stevandić, the Deputy Prime Minister of North Macedonia and Minister of Inter-Community Relations, Ivan Stoilković, members of the Defence Minister’s and the Chief of the General Staff’s respective collegiums, Bishop Ilarion of Novo Brdo - Vicar of the Serbian Patriarch, representatives of religious communities, the diplomatic corps, victims’ families, military school cadets and students and others.
