Regular SAF unit rotation in UNIFIL

The Serbian Armed Forces unit drawn from the Training Command, which served with the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) since last September, has returned to the Republic of Serbia after successfully completing its deployment.
This platoon-sized unit was tasked with protecting the base where the Italian UN peacekeepers are stationed, and was replaced by another SAF force protection platoon, which was sent to the mission area in early March.

In the complex security situation in Lebanon, the leaders and soldiers performed all their tasks responsibly and professionally, as befits members of the Serbian Armed Forces, whose participation in peacekeeping operations frequently receives top marks and praise from their superiors and foreign partners.
The two SAF force protection platoons rotated last week in an official ceremony held in the UN base in Lebanon, which was attended by Sector West Commander, Italian Brigadier General Nicola Mandolesi. At the ceremony, members of the Serbian Armed Forces, who completed their deployment, were presented with UN medals for successful participation in the mission and the mission flag was handed over to the commander of the new platoon, which symbolically marked the beginning of the new unit’s deployment.

The Serbian Armed Forces have been contributing to UNIFIL since 2010. In addition to the force protection platoon, our contingent in this operation also comprises an infantry company, staff officers at the mission HQ and a group of specialists responsible for providing support to our contingent.
