Military Academy Sports Championship begins
The Military Academy sports championship opening ceremony was held at the Athletic Hall in Belgrade today.
The opening speech was delivered by the Commandant of the Military Academy, Colonel Srđan Blagojević, Ph.D., who said that “this very event marks the beginning of celebrations of the 175th anniversary, which speaks of the strength of the foundation upon which this higher education institution rests”.
- Throughout its existence, the Military Academy has fostered the spirit of sportsmanship, and sport is perhaps the only activity that has so many similarities with the military and the military uniform. In sports as well as in the military, primordial values are cherished - patriotism, honour, and collective and fighting spirit, without which achieving either sporting or military victories is impossible - said Colonel Blagojević, expressing his gratitude to the competitors for demonstrating absolute commitment and hard effort during the preparations for the sports championship. Then, he presented certificates of appreciation to the most deserving sports associations and societies.
At this year's Open Championship of the Military Academy, which will last until March 14, members of the Military Academy’s Cadet Brigade, students of the Military Grammar School and the "1300 Corporals" Secondary Vocational Military School, alongside the students of the University of Criminal Investigation and Police Studies and the High School of Internal Affairs, will compete in athletics, martial arts, basketball and 3x3 futsal events.The opening ceremony was attended by the Rector of the Defence University, Brigadier General Boban Đorović, Ph.D., and representatives of the Defence University and the Military Academy.
