Defence University Day marked
A ceremony to mark Defence University Day was held today at the General Jovan Mišković barracks in Belgrade.
The event was attended by State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence Mile Jelić, Deputy Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff Lieutenant General Tiosav Janković, members of the Defence University and numerous guests.At the beginning of the ceremony, the national flag was welcomed and the anthem of the Republic of Serbia was played, after which messages from Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić and Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović, were read.
Addressing the audience, the Rector of the Defence University, Brigadier General Boban Đorović, Ph.D., said that over the past several years, the Defence University had focused its attention on two main goals – to carry out its mission conscientiously and to use all its capacities to address the needs of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces.
He highlighted the accreditation of two new programmes of study – Air Defence at the Military Academy and Dental Medicine at the Medical Faculty (Military Medical Academy), and emphasized that during the past year, three establishments subordinate to the Defence University had marked their anniversaries – MMA Medical Faculty – 15th anniversary, Strategic Research Institute – 40th anniversary and Military Grammar School – 50 years since the graduation of the school’s first class, and Field Marshal Radomir Putnik National Defence School - 140 years since the establishment of officer professional development programme in Serbia.- This year, 2025, is an important year for all members of the Defence University, because it marks the 175th anniversary of the formation of the Artillery School. Although this event is celebrated by the Military Academy as its holiday, I am sure that we are all aware of its importance. The formation of the Artillery School facilitated the establishment of officer professionalism in the Principality of Serbia. So, the holiday is not exclusively celebrated by the Military Academy, but by the entire higher military education system and all Serbian officers. The jubilee, which we feel proud of, reminds us of the importance of education, the power of knowledge, the importance of the military education tradition and the significance of officers’ profession and honour - said General Đorović and expressed confidence that the members of the Defence University would be able to overcome all challenges and that, when the time comes, they would be viewed by future generations as the Artillery School’s worthy successors.
At today's ceremony, orders granting monetary incentives were read and awards were presented to the most deserving members of the Defence University, after which the Defence University’s doctoral degree conferment ceremony was held at the Rector's Office.
