Gun salutes to mark Serbian Statehood Day



By order of the President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces, Aleksandar Vučić, members of the Serbian Armed Forces Guard performed a gun salute simultaneously in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Niš and Kragujevac to mark February 15 - Statehood Day.
Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić and Deputy Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff Lieutenant General Tiosav Janković were in attendance at the gun salute ceremony held at the Sava Terrace in Belgrade’s Kalemegdan Park.

A 10-volley gun salute performed by firing six artillery pieces in Kalemegdan was preceded by the Representative Guards Orchestra performance, and 10 volleys were fired by four artillery pieces at the Niš Fortress to the sounds of music performed by the Army Military Band “Niš”.

The gun salute ceremony at the Petrovaradin Fortress in Novi Sad was attended by the President of the Provincial Government, Maja Gojković, Minister of Economy Adrijana Mesarović, Acting Assistant Minister of Defence for Human Resources Siniša Radović and Deputy Commander of the Training Command Brigadier General Nebojša Cvetković. The ceremony at the Niš Fortress was attended by Minister of Sports Zoran Gajić, acting Assistant Minister for Defence Policy Predrag Bandić and Army Commander Lieutenant General Milosav Simović.

Minister of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs Nemanja Starović, Assistant Minister of Defence for Material Resources Nenad Miloradović, Ph.D., and the Head of the Operations Department, General Staff, Major General Gordan Pavlović, attended the gun salute ceremony in Great Park in Kragujevac.

Serbia hosts a series of events to celebrate Statehood Day, which commemorates the Candlemas (Sretenje) of 1804, when the First Serbian Uprising broke out, as well as the day when Serbia adopted its first modern constitution in 1835.
