Assistant Minister for Defence Policy meets with Iranian Chargé d'Affaires
Acting Assistant Minister for Defence Policy Predrag Bandić met today with the new Chargé d'Affaires of the Iranian Embassy in Belgrade, Mohammad Mahdi Abadi.
At the beginning of the meeting, Assistant Minister Bandić welcomed the Iranian Chargé d'Affaires on behalf of the Minister of Defence, emphasizing historical ties linking the two countries, as well as their relationship based on mutual respect and cooperation. He stressed that the Republic of Serbia was committed to cooperating with Iran in areas of mutual interest.
As a neutral country, he added, Serbia strives to develop relations with other countries on the basis of equality and mutual respect, and advocates consistent compliance with international law, preservation of territorial integrity and sovereignty of all countries, as well as strengthening peace and stability.
Assistant Minister Bandić thanked Iran for its principled and consistent non-recognition of the unilateral declaration of independence of the so-called Kosovo. Mohammad Mahdi Abadi thanked the Serbian Ministry of Defence for its warm welcome and expressed hope that the cooperation would continue to develop in the best interest of both countries.
