New SAF team in EU mission in Somalia

A ceremony was held today at the Peacekeeping Operations Centre in Belgrade to send off a medical team of the Serbian Armed Forces to the European Union Training Mission in Somalia (EUTM Somalia).
Our contingent, which will be working in the mission area over the next six months, comprises a staff officer serving as chief of the mission’s medical corps and a team of medical professionals who will be responsible for providing medical support and primary health care for members of the multinational force stationed at the Mogadishu airport.

They will replace SAF doctors and nurses who have served in Somalia since August, justifying the good reputation of the Serbian Armed Forces Medical Service in a multinational environment by successfully carrying out all tasks in accordance with the mission mandate.

The send-off ceremony was attended by the Head of the Operations Department (J-3), General Staff, Major General Gordan Pavlović, and the Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to the Republic of Serbia, Plamena Halacheva.
On this occasion, Ms. Halacheva expressed her satisfaction with the activities undertaken by the Serbian Armed Forces aimed at selecting, equipping and training its members prior to deploying them to EU multinational operations and highlighted her positive impressions about the work of
SAF members serving in the military mission in Somalia.

The Serbian Armed Forces began participating in EUTM Somalia in 2012, and, so far, more than 130 doctors and nurses have been deployed to this mission to work as part of the mission command and medical team. By participating in UN and EU peacekeeping operations, the Serbian Armed Forces actively contribute to building and safeguarding world peace, but they also strengthen our country’s foreign relations.
