Military schools mark Saint Sava Day
Students of the Military Grammar School and the “1300 Corporals” Secondary Vocational Military School celebrated today the school holiday, the Feast of St. Sava.
The celebration held at the Military Grammar School was attended by State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence Mile Jelić, Acting Secretary of the Ministry of Defence Nebojša Nikolić, Rector of the Defence University Brigadier General Boban Đorović, Ph.D., Commandant of the Military Academy Col. Srđan Blagojević, Ph.D., military school students and staff and numerous guests.
The rituals of blessing the wheat and cutting the Slava cake were performed by protopresbyter-staurophore Ilija Šmigić, protopresbyter-staurophore Aleksandar Sredojević, military priests - archpriest Major Nemanja Petrović, priest Captain Slavko Papić and deacon Marko Popović.
In his address, the Head of the Military Grammar School, Lieutenant Colonel Blagoje Đačić, said that the celebration of the Feast of St. Sava was an additional motivation to continue being dedicated to the basic task – educating and upbringing students.
- To be consistently dedicated to the development and improvement of the quality of teaching and the delivery of education to students, following the enlightening and educational work of Saint Sava. Just as Saint Sava worked day and night to enlighten and educate Serbs, building both the church and the state, preserving the language and the script, so do we, having St. Sava as a role model, work hard day and night to develop and improve military education and to create and secure the future for the Serbian Armed Forces - said Lieutenant Colonel Đačić.
After the religious ceremony, students of military schools performed a cultural and artistic programme to mark St. Sava Day.
