New issue of Odbrana

The Standpoint section of the New Year's issue of Odbrana is dedicated to the exercises and displays conducted by the commands and units of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces during 2024 throughout the Republic of Serbia, demonstrating the strength and power of the defence system.
The System section presents the Military Police Training Centre, the 246th CBRN Battalion and the guardians of tradition - the Cavalry Platoon of the Serbian Armed Forces Guard. It also gives the details about the Quartermaster Reserve Officers Course.

We have interviewed Colonel Nebojša Đenić, M.D., Ph.D., manager of the Military Hospital Niš, a unique military health institution in the defence system and in the entire health system of Serbia. This hospital can be described as an “open-air museum”, because each of its buildings has been an actor and witness to all the difficult moments and turning points in the history of modern Serbia since its creation.

We have learned about what is new in military education from Prof. Sonja Marjanović, M.D., Ph.D., Dean of the Medical Faculty, Military Medical Academy. Namely, in the upcoming enrolment period, in June 2025, this faculty will enrol cadets and students in the integrated studies of dental medicine for the first time.
We recommend that you also read two articles in the Arsenal section. The first one is about the world’s first assault rifle - StG 44, and the second one about Edvard Rusjan, the pioneer of the Yugoslav Air Force. The memory of him is kept alive by the Aeronautical Museum in Belgrade, as the custodian of aviation heritage.

The Tradition section contains an account of the officers' ball held on December 4 at the Grand Hall of the Central Military Club to mark the Military Veterans Day.
We have also visited the community centre in Idvor, which proudly bears the name of Mihajlo Pupin, and written a story about our great scientist, inventor, diplomat, philanthropist, versatile man who took part in shaping our world.

The Culture section contains an article about another great Serb - Dositej Obradović, to whom the exhibition entitled “Sazvežđe Dositej” (Dositej Constellation) is dedicated. The exhibition, organized by Media Centre “Odbrana” under the conceptual guidance of the Dositej Obradović Endowment, opened on December 10 in the Grand Gallery of the Central Military Club and will be open until January 15, 2025.

We wish all our readers a happy New Year and a merry Christmas.
