Powerful FK-3 missile system guards Serbian skies
By arming the Air Force and Air Defence with the new FK-3 air defence missile system, the airspace control and protection system has been significantly improved in the Republic of Serbia. This highly manoeuvrable missile system that shields Serbian skies consists of a vehicle with a command centre, rocket launchers, radars, and logistics vehicles.
Training is carried out daily in the 250th Air Defence Missile Brigade’s battalion armed with the FK-3, along with the monitoring and evaluation of the crews’ performance. This practice ensures that the unit is fully capable of defending important facilities, SAF troops, and territory from airborne reconnaissance and aerial attacks.
The missile battery commander, Captain 1st Class Stefan Manić, says that the FK-3 is a milestone in air defence systems.
— The FK-3 has an exceptional anti-jamming system and capability to prevent missiles designed to destroy tracking radars. The FK-3 air defence missile system is characterized by exceptional manoeuvrability and spatial efficiency, which makes it dominant among new generation missile systems. It is equipped with sophisticated technology. In addition to the aforementioned characteristics, the system has exceptional fire capabilities, because it can engage 6 air targets with 12 missiles simultaneously – says Captain Manić.
According to him, it is a great honour to be the commander of an air defence missile battery and to work on the most powerful air defence missile system that our country has. The crews have undergone training on the FK-3 missile system in the People's Republic of China and the training process was very complex, he says.
— Despite the challenges, all unit members were highly motivated and completed all forms of training, in order to be able to perform maintenance and use the missile system independently — Captain Manić adds.
The FK-3 can engage various types of aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles, and air-to-surface missiles moving at a speed of 1000 m/s, at an altitude of 27 km and a distance of up to 100 km. It is used for the defence of government buildings, business facilities, SAF troops, and territory from airborne reconnaissance and aerial attacks. It is also engaged in protecting the sovereignty of Serbia’s airspace.
