More than 70 new assets in Serbian Armed Forces armament
The Serbian Armed Forces units will ring in the New Year equipped with new and modernized combat systems, thanks to large investments in the defence system through acquisitions of modern weapons systems and military equipment made over the past year. This way, the fighting capacity, fire power, and operational capabilities of our armed forces are being significantly increased.
An agreement to procure Rafale multirole fighter jets has been concluded, the financing of which started this year. The adoption of Rafale jets will further improve the monitoring of national airspace and the protection of its sovereignty.
In 2024, more than 70 different types of state-of-the-art weapons and military equipment entered service in the Serbian Armed Forces units, 38 of which are domestically developed, thanks to tremendous efforts of the Military Technical Institute and the Serbian Defence Industry.
Some of the most important domestically produced and modernized systems that have recently been adopted are the BOV OT armoured personnel carrier, the new Miloš-M armoured combat vehicle, the modified BRDM-2MS armoured vehicle, a new reconnaissance variant of the Humvee and a new type of 155 mm extended range ammunition.
Keeping abreast of modern trends, efforts are being made to develop UAVs and introduce drones that can be used for both reconnaissance and combat missions. Also, the production of zero series of Vrabac (Sparrow) mini drones has been completed and a large number of Komarac-1 (Mosquito-1) drones has been produced.
The newly introduced drone repellent used for detecting and disrupting unmanned aerial vehicles is of great importance, too. The mobility of our Special Forces and reconnaissance units has been improved by the newly procured Humvees, and Toyota Hilux off-road vehicles have been purchased for our units in multinational operations.
The Serbian Armed Forces have been further strengthened with FK-3, HQ-17AE and PASARS air defence missile systems, H-145M helicopters equipped with the next generation optronic sighting system, GM-400 and GM-200 radars, as well as Lazar 3 armoured combat vehicles with enhanced ballistic protection.
It is also important that the fire support to Army units has been increased thanks to modernized Oganj and Gvozdika systems.
Also, the stationary component of the Telecommunications and Information System has been upgraded, which has improved the quality and range of services in the defence system, and the construction of a situation centre and the establishment of a data centre within the General Staff have begun, which will improve the operational environment visualization and data exchange and storage efficiency.
In 2025, the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces will continue equipping units with modern weapons and military equipment, strengthening the operational capabilities of our armed forces and acting as a shield against any threats to the peace and security of our homeland.
