Send-off ceremony for SAF contingent deploying to peacekeeping operation

A send-off ceremony was held today at the 1st Infantry Regiment of Prince Miloš the Great Barracks in Vranje for a new SAF contingent that is being deployed to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
The contingent comprises an infantry unit of the Forth Army Brigade, staff officers that will be serving at the mission headquarters, and a group of specialists tasked with providing support to our personnel.

They will be performing responsible tasks, as part of international force, on the preservation of peace in UNIFIL’s Sector East in this Middle Eastern country. They have undergone thorough preparations and several months of training to fully prepare for deployment.
The send-off ceremony was attended by representatives of the General Staff, Serbian Armed Forces units, local self-government bodies and the Serbian Orthodox Church, as well as relatives and friends of the soldiers and leaders who are being deployed to the mission.

The Head of the Telecommunications and IT Department (J-6), General Staff, Brigadier General Mile Vitezović, presented the flag of the Republic of Serbia to the unit commander, Major Nemanja Stamenković, and wished the members of the Serbian Armed Forces much success in the execution of assigned tasks in the mission area and a safe return to the homeland.
The Serbian Armed Forces’ contribution to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon began in 2010. Apart from the personnel serving in UNIFIL’s Sector East, the SAF contingent also includes a force protection platoon currently serving in Sector West.
