Minister Gašić meets with Chinese Ambassador Li Ming
Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić met today with the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Serbia, Li Ming.
The main topics of the meeting were regional and global security situation and defence cooperation.
At the beginning of the meeting, Minister Gašić pointed out that “regional stability is of strategic importance for our country and that, in this respect, there is close high-level dialogue between our two countries, which further contributes to strengthening bilateral relations between Serbia and China”. According to him, personal relations between Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and Chinese President Xi Jinping have put a special stamp on the traditionally friendly and “steel” relations between the two countries.
The Minister of Defence expressed his gratitude for China’s unreserved support for Serbia’s efforts to preserve sovereignty and territorial integrity and said that China’s position regarding the issue of Kosovo and Metohija had always been straightforward and principled. He also highlighted Serbia’s support for the “One China” policy.
Minister Gašić said that “despite all challenges, Serbia continues to pursue a responsible policy of peace and stability and remains fully committed to respecting international law and adhering to the agreements reached so far”.
According to the Minister of Defence, defence cooperation is intensive and well established, particularly in the fields of military economy and military technology, and there are prospects for the military medical and military educational cooperation to expand, to the benefit of both countries.
Ambassador Li Ming thanked Minister Gašić for the opportunity to meet and have a conversation with him. He emphasized the importance of defence cooperation between the two countries, as well as a mutual interest in bringing the military-to-military cooperation to a higher level.
