Meeting between State Secretary Jelić, Commander of National Guard Cyprus Gen. Tsitsikostas
State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence Mile Jelić met today with the Commander of the National Guard Cyprus, Lt. Gen. Georgios Tsitsikostas, during the latter’s official visit to the Republic of Serbia.
Speaking about the historical closeness and friendship between the two nations, the two officials emphasized the traditionally good relationship between Serbia and Cyprus, based on mutual cooperation and respect, and unencumbered by any open issues.
State Secretary Jelić expressed his gratitude for Cyprus’s principled stance regarding the non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of the so-called Kosovo and said that Serbia would continue to support Cyprus’s territorial integrity and finding a political solution to the Cyprus issue.
The State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence pointed out the importance of mutual support in protecting the sovereignty and abiding by the principles of international law, which was a confirmation of true friendship between the two countries and nations.
According to him, members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, who are serving with the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), will do their best to justify the trust placed in them and help fulfil the mission’s mandate.
The two officials agreed that the defence cooperation between the two countries was very good and had potential for further improvement, and expressed their satisfaction with the military-to-military and military economic cooperation.
