Message by Minister of Defence on Army Day, 110th Anniversary

Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić has sent a message on the occasion of November 16 – the Army Day and the 110th anniversary, which reads as follows:

“I would like to extend my congratulations to all members of the Army on the occasion of November 16 – the Army Day and the service’s 110th anniversary.

The Army Day commemorates the beginning of the Battle of Kolubara and the preservation of the traditions upheld by the Serbian army in World War I. This battle is unique in the history of warfare. The Serbian army, which was predicted to collapse completely, reorganized itself quickly during this battle, began a counter-offensive and inflicted a decisive defeat on the enemy.

You proudly follow the 110-year old tradition of Kolubara heroes, who knew how to fight for the survival of their people and the liberation of Serbia. In the past year, you have dealt with numerous challenges at work, proving that you have the ability and resources to fulfil the tasks falling within your competence.

By successfully performing your tasks in the Ground Safety Zone, you have demonstrated a high degree of training and are making a major contribution to strengthening the reputation of the Serbian Armed Forces as a whole. Over the past year, the Army has become stronger and more numerous thanks to investments in state-of-the-art weapons and military equipment and the admission of new service members. The new officers and non-commissioned officers have every opportunity to supplement their knowledge with the knowledge and experience shared by their older co-workers.

By providing assistance to citizens affected by natural disasters, you have demonstrated that you are always with your people in times of need.

Hoping that you will remain the pillar of our country's defence and a bulwark that no enemy will ever overcome, I once again extend my heartfelt congratulations to you on your holiday and anniversary."
