Press Release
Members of the Serbian Armed Forces contingent deployed in UNIFIL’s Sector East, West and the mission’s HQ in the town of Naqoura, as well as members of the Serbian Armed Forces deployed in the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) in the Middle East, are doing well and have not been under direct threat so far. Despite the complex security situation, the supply of all essential items necessary for the life and work of our personnel is regular. Members of the Serbian Armed Forces are in good health and highly motivated to continue performing their tasks in accordance with the mission’s mandate.
The current situation in UNIFIL’s and UNTSO’s mission areas is still complex and unstable. Intense clashes between the Israel Defense Forces and Hezbollah continue, mainly in Sector West’s area of responsibility.
The Serbian Armed Forces General Staff monitors the security situation on a daily basis and is in constant contact with the Senior National Representative of the Serbian Armed Forces in the Republic of Lebanon, as well as with the defence staffs of the Spanish and Italian armed forces, with whose contingents our personnel have excellent cooperation in the aforementioned mission areas.
The restriction of movement is still in force for mission personnel, and they are instructed to stay in shelters and use ballistic protection in accordance with operational procedures. The leadership of UNIFIL has made a decision to continue the deployment and rotations of staff officers and units in the mission area as of November 1, 2024. The rotation of the SAF company currently deployed in this mission will be carried out at the beginning of January next year.
Also, the mission leadership continues to insist that the warring parties ensure the safety of UN personnel and property and respect the inviolability of the mission personnel.
